Funny how sometimes your perspective can change dramatically. We thought Schreiber, Ontario, would be a wisp of a pit stop on our Greyhound journey. Bob Krause showed us otherwise, taking us on a tour of the town, which has an active population of 1,000. Two schools, four churches, a medical-dental facility, a giant recreation complex and arena (the venue for many of the Italian wedding celebrations). There's a grocery store, hardware, fire department and an enthusiastic Council. (Bob is former mayor and current councillor.)
Bob later took us to his place where we interviewed him about how he's motivated by his love of people.
There is a helping culture here in the north and a pride of place that is rare in larger centres. It's warm and comforting, and I know I'll carry a piece of it with me when I leave.
The bus ride from Schreiber toward Thunder Bay offered up a pseudo-sacred sunset (at 9 pm!) and views of Lake Superior that ranged from serene to startling to stunning.
As it's taking us time to catch up with our video editing, this video link is for an excerpt from our interview last Friday with Izzy Trottier, filmed at a pub in Sudbury.
We love getting your comments--which you can leave below. Don't be shy.
