Hi, Everyone!

We wanted to let you know that Moon Dog Theatre has a new domain name:

moondogtheatre.ca

Please help us out by clicking on the link above to help Google redirect people to Moon Dog Theatre (unless you want to go the old URL, which leads to a résumé-writing site).

Stay tuned for upcoming news about the Eye for Love Tour film festival screenings!

I'll also be starting a new blog on new developments about The Walk (my play about global sex trafficking).

Until next time, enjoy your summer!

Much love to all of you!

WE LAUNCHED OUR FILM TODAY!

I'm thrilled to report that the Eye for Love Tour story is now in a 30-minute documentary. The film premièred at the Film Factory in Kelowna, BC, to an audience of 66, including our three awesome helpers--Michael, Kendra, and Tianna.

Gene and I always cry when we watch the film, and we were glad to witness that we're not alone in that! There's laughter too, and some thought-. provoking perspectives.
We're grateful for how warmly the film was received, but the most meaningful comments were from audience members who told us it caused them to reflect on their own situation and their own values 💛 (which was what we had dared to hope for). I especially loved the comment from a professional film-maker and producer: "Thank you for the beautiful contribution of film art in this world."

Here's the latest from the Love Tour

Hi, Everyone. It seems the Fall is a time for rethinking things. We didn't mean to keep you in the dark about the progress of the Love Tour documentary. But, honestly, we've been a bit in the dark ourselves. Telus sat on our funding application for quite some time, and finally let us know that we were SOL.
Plan B was to approach a number of Vancouver film companies (recommended by our lawyer) to explore a possible collaboration. So just yesterday we sent off a proposal to the first company on our list. We're not pitching to all the companies at once because each proposal takes a lot of time and energy--two commodities that have been at a premium this year in our household. I've been dealing with a health issue that has kept me from walking for most of the year. Currently I have a fibreglass cast up to my knee and get around on a knee scooter. Lots of medical appointments, and no chance of walking anytime soon.
That said, we are busy with various projects and trying to enjoy life in Kelowna as much as possible. I hope you are  also savouring all of the delicious moments in your life and finding beauty in this season of transition.
We're still committed to producing the Eye for Love Tour documentary and will keep you posted on the next step as soon as have more news.
Meanwhile, we'd love to hear from you. Please leave us a comment below! Also feel free to send us any suggestions you might have about producing the Eye  for Love Tour documentary. Click here to see our amazing sizzle reel.

Sending you much love,
Catherine and Gene

New Love Tour  News + Our Sizzle Reel

3/15/2016

Hello, Everyone!
It's been an adventurous few months since I last posted here. We consulted an entertainment lawyer in Vancouver about a  proposed deal from an international film distributor to have the Love Tour documentary produced. But we were advised to say no as the deal (among other conditions) would have meant giving up ownership of the project. Duh.
Now, on the advice of our lawyer, we've had a "sizzle reel" (aka. professional trailer) made so that we can pitch the Love Tour to a number of film production companies.
We wanted to share the trailer first with all of you, our dear supporters. Click here to view our shiny new trailer.
Oh, and if you have any suggestions on how we might proceed to get our doc produced, we'd love to hear from you. Fact is, we'd love to hear from you anyway. Just leave a comment on this blog or send us a message at moondogtheatre@rogers.com.
Stay tuned for more news, and enjoy the return of Spring ❤️

News from our new HQ

Happy New Year from Kelowna, BC. I hope your holidays, wherever you were and whatever you were doing, had special meaning for you.

The Love Tour journey has taken some interesting (if sometimes frustrating) directions. Our video producer in Ottawa had to withdraw from the project because of family issues. This was disappointing as we expected to have our first film (or at least a draft) ready by early this year.
However, we wasted no time in setting up meetings with a few local filmmakers here in Kelowna as well as an international film distributor. So we're processing the expert advice we've received so far and exploring the best options for getting the whole docu-series produced and finding the broadest possible audience.
We will definitely keep you posted on what happens next. Meanwhile, here's to 2016! May it be rich and fulfilling, a time for dreams and action--and especially Love.

Updates on the Love Tour & Moon Dog Theatre

This is our cameraman Jerry Golland, videotaping us at the Ottawa Greyhound Bus Terminal in September as we reflected on the different themes for our Love Tour docu-series. Thanks for your constant support, Jerry (and sorry for the fuzzy pic)! The first theme in the docu-series will be all about FAMILY. The bare bones of the script is done, but I'll be consulting with an experienced documentary maker to whip it into shape. Our video producer is with the SAW Video Coop (we're members too!).

And this is Okanagan Lake in Kelowna, BC, which will be our new headquarters for the next while. But it'll be business as usual as we continue our work on the Love Tour, as well as a new play we've been commissioned to research and write. We're so grateful to be be able to work at what we love! A special thank you to all of you who have touched our lives in so many special ways. Thanks for following us, and stay tuned...

New Directions for the Love Tour

First, some great news! In addition to the $2,105 raised on our FundRazr campaign (click here to see our FundRazr Wall of Fame), we've also received a private donation of $2,600!

We've reviewed all of the wonderful interviews (for the gazillionth time) and sorted the best material into 12(!) different categories. As you might expect, there's way too much stuff to squeeze into one documentary. So we've decided to group the themes together and turn the project into a docu-series (probably six videos).

I've been honing my editing skills in some iMovie workshops, so that our video producer will get the highest quality clips to work with.

Whee-e-e-e!

Spring is in the air, and so is the energy of Love. We're just as passionate as ever about the Eye for Love Tour, and we are eager to share the hundred or so stories we collected on our cross-Canada journey in a documentary film. So we've launched a crowdsourcing campaign to help us with the studio production costs of the film. Please visit the campaign and join the Love Tour by making a donation or simply by sharing the link with your friends and family. Click here to view our campaign.

We hope you enjoy this trailer for the Love Tour documentary.

Love Tour Note: What it takes

Last Friday, we interviewed Dr. Sue Johnson for the Love Tour documentary. All of our interviewees from across Canada have already shared their special brand of love expertise with us, but Sue gave us the professional's take. (She's been researching the dynamics of love for 30 years, and authored two bestsellers on how to get and hold onto love.)

Love Tour Note: Making headway!

Chinese filmmaker Bin Zhao was a guest in our home last fall and had several useful tips for us! (One of his main questions to the world figures he interviews is "What is love and hate for you?")
If things seem to be moving a bit slowly at this end, it's because we were caring for my dad on his final journey and tending to funeral arrangements and all the related details.

But we are definitely back on track and have exciting news to share with you! We've been working on a trailer for the Love Tour documentary, and yesterday we finally brought the script to our media arts technician, Phil Rose. Phil had written to me: "Remember, just because a trailer is fairly short in length does not necessarily mean it is that much easier to put together - might just be the opposite - in order to keep it tight and effective you have to give it quite a bit of thought."

No kidding! I'm feeling a bit too sheepish to tell you how long it took to put the script together for this three-minute trailer, but it was a huge relief to place it and the accompanying USB key into Phil's hands. Now he's working his magic.

We plan to use the trailer to raise funds for the production of the doc. I'll let you know where you can see it! We're also looking at incorporating Moon Dog Theatre as a federal not-for-profit corporation. Stay tuned!
